Lufthansa Cabin Crew Strike at Frankfurt

Lufthansa has had to cancel about a third of its 360 scheduled flights in and out of Frankfurt this morning due to walkouts by cabin crew. Domestic and European flights were mainly affected but some long-haul flights were also hit by knock-on effects. Frankfurt is Lufthansa’s main hub and Europe’s third-busiest airport.

Cabin crew staged a strike from 05.00 in their fight for higher pay. Their union, the Independent Fight Attendants Organisation (UFO), is seeking a 5% pay increase for cabin staff for 15 months starting from January this year after three years of zero increases. Lufthansa’s latest offer was 3.5%. The union is also opposed to the use of temporary cabin staff in Lufthansa aircraft.

Lufthansa said: “In general, delays must be anticipated throughout the day. Even after the end of the strike, Lufthansa foresees irregularities in flight operations from and to Frankfurt. Lufthansa Regional and Germanwings flights are not affected.”
