New BarrierFree Holiday Guide to Germany

The German National Tourist Office UK & Ireland has launched a new accessible holiday guide. Cycling holidays for blind people, ‘free climbing’ in mountain regions, rugby games, quad tours or canoeing for wheelchair users, plus darkened ‘sensory’ tours are just a few of the activities available, for people with disabilities, through this new guide. Germany NTO BarrierFree 2015 Brochure

‘BarrierFree Tourism in Germany’ outlines the pursuits available region by region and gives details of how to get further information. It includes river cruises, beach and water wheelchair holidays, a museum for the blind in which all visitors go through the exhibits in complete darkness, and the dazzling Phaeno Science Museum in Wolfsburg with its hands-on, sensory exhibits, plus BarrierFree hiking tours, to name a few activities.

The new guide is available from the GNTO’s webshop, free of charge: www.germany.travel/webshop-uk and more generic information about accessible travel in Germany can be seen on the dedicated website: www.germany.travel/barrierfree

Klaus Lohmann, Director, GNTO UK & Ireland, said: “Our message is: expect the unexpected! With this new guide, anyone with an interest in travel and accessible holidays will see how Germany is increasing the choice available for people who require assistance on holiday – be it for sight impairment, restricted mobility, sensory impairment or other needs, our new guide provides ideas for activities that will stimulate and encourage people to try new things.

“In addition, Germany is a wonderful country to get away from it all – so you have the choice whether you want to escape the ‘day to day’ in peace and quiet or organise a full-on itinerary and try a new experience every day.”

The GNTO’s ‘BarrierFree Travel’ campaign and website was launched in 2012 and an Internet search of ‘BarrierFree’ or ‘Accessible Germany’ now lists www.germany.travel/barrierfree as the no. 1. UK website on Google.
