WOW air has become the first airline in Europe to operate an Airbus A321neo following an acquisition deal signed this week at the Paris Air show. The new aircraft will join WOW air’s current all-Airbus fleet of 17 and will be deployed on WOW air’s routes to Europe and North America with its inaugural flight on 5th July.
With routes from Ireland to 10 North American destinations via the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, the new Airbus A321neo will service Irish passengers on WOW air’s transatlantic routes. The airline recently began flying from Ireland to Pittsburgh and will begin flying to Chicago from 13th July.
The efficient, single -aisle jetliner will have 218 seats and be christened TF-SKY. The new aircraft further reinforces the airline’s move towards reduced fuel consumption after the recent addition of its A320neo to its fleet.
Skúli Mogensen, Chief Executive, WOW air, said: “We are delighted to add the Airbus 321neo to our fleet and continue to be able to offer our passengers the latest in onboard technology, making their journeys as smooth and enjoyable at the best possible prices. The new aircraft is a significant addition to our family of aircraft, allowing us to service routes of more than six thousand kilometres, a journey that the previous model of A321 has not been able to do.”
Steven Udvar-Hazy, Executive Chairman, Air Lease Corporation, said: “This first new A321neo delivery for ALC in Europe illustrates our strong and growing relationship with WOW air. We are most honoured to be associated with the success and network expansion of this consumer friendly, cost efficient and environmentally conscious airline, which in a short period of time has become one of the most innovative air carriers serving Europe and North America.
“The A321neo will ensure that WOW air can reach and serve more destinations, with its greater range, performance and economic operating cost advantages, including lower fuel consumption.”
John Leahy, COO – Customers, Airbus, added: “The A321neo will allow WOW air to further expand its network in Europe and North America with the most comfortable and fuel-efficient aircraft in its class. Aside from the reduced operating costs, the aircraft also provides a WOW effect for passengers with its spacious state-of-the-art cabin.”
