Turkish Airlines has signed up as an ‘elite’ sponsor of the UEFA Champions League.
The sponsorship deal ties in with this season’s final being held in Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10 next year.
The Ataturk Olympic Stadium already has legendary Champions League status, having hosted the 2005 final which produced Liverpool’s miraculous comeback against AC Milan.
Turkish Airlines said this new deal ranks as one of the most important sponsorship agreements in the sporting history of Turkey.
Turkish Airlines is no stranger to football sponsorship, and UEFA – European football’s governing body. The carrier has previously held sponsorship rights with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Marseilles; and was a partner sponsor to UEFA at the 2016 European Championships.
This new Champions League deal will see the airline’s logo grace participating football pitches throughout the tournament and scoreboards and LED screens during matches.
The deal will also place Turkish Airlines as the official sponsor of the UEFA Super Cup and UEFA’s Futsal Champions League and Youth League finals tournaments.
