Travellers visiting Turkey this summer will no longer have to apply for an electronic visa before they travel after authorities agreed to postpone the introduction of the new system until the end of the year. Electronic visas were due to be exclusively in place from 11th April, with the visas on arrival system coming to an end. However, the exclusivity implementation date has now been extended until 31st December 2014 so visitors who need a visa to enter Turkey can still get it at Turkish borders. Travellers can also obtain an e-Visa online on www.evisa.gov.tr up to 24 hours before travel.
Visitors who apply for an e-Visa will get a US$10 discount and can also print their e-Visa either using their own printers or at Istanbul Atatürk Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Visitors arriving in Turkey without an e-Visa will also be able to obtain them via interactive kiosks located at these two airports. Tour operators will be able to apply for group visas.
Turkey requires a visa from citizens of more than 90 countries. Irish and British visitors (and 30 other countries) will be issued with an e-Visa valid for a period of 90 days. Visitors from the other countries will get 30-day e-Visas.
