US low fares carrier Southwest Airlines intends to sign a second airline partnership deal next year, following its first such agreement with Icelandair.
The US-Europe connectivity deal with Icelandair was announced recently and will formally begin, through Baltimore-Washington International Airport next year.
A series of global airline partnerships forms part of Southwest’s broader plan to increase its international presence and boost its revenues.
The airline is also upgrading its customer service levels – including assigned seating, premium seating, and boarding upgrades – in a bid to up revenues and return profits over the next three years.
“We’re now ushering in a new era at Southwest, moving swiftly and deliberately to transform the Company by elevating the Customer Experience, improving financial performance, and driving sustainable Shareholder value,” said Southwest President and CEO, Bob Jordan.
