SAS Scandinavian Airlines Confirms Alliance Switch to SkyTeam from September 1

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has confirmed it will formally join the SkyTeam airline alliance on September 1; promising its passengers the move will result in “smoother travel”, easier connections and more destination options.

SAS leaves Star Alliance – of which it was one of the founding airlines – in the process.

The new alliance will open up connections for SAS customers to more than 1,060 destinations including new destinations in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

As soon as SAS joins SkyTeam, EuroBonus members will receive benefits when flying with most SkyTeam airlines. Silver members will receive SkyTeam Elite status, while Gold and Diamond members will become Elite Plus. Elite Plus members will have access to over 750 airport lounges and will also be able to use SkyPriority services such as priority check-in and boarding.

Andrés Conesa, Chairman of SkyTeam, said: “SAS shares SkyTeam’s vision of delivering more integrated and responsible travel experiences. Together with our members, we are now continuing the work to ensure a smooth transition to the new alliance for all customers.”

Patrick Roux, SkyTeam CEO, said: “We are delighted to officially welcome SAS to our alliance. SAS is known for being reliable and offers excellent quality and service, and it fits in with SkyTeam’s focus on improving the customer experience well. We look forward to being a part of their future journey.”

Anko van der Werff, SAS President and CEO said: “We are pleased to have reached this important milestone in SAS’s transition to a new alliance. EuroBonus members can now look forward to new destinations and benefits with SkyTeam. This is the beginning of an exciting future for our customers, partners and employees. SAS customers will benefit from SkyTeam’s strong global presence at major airports around the world and its focus on strategic partnerships and innovative sustainability initiatives.”

SkyTeam members flying to and from SAS hubs Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm are: Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines and Middle East Airlines.
