Rival Carriers Step in to Replace Flybe

Following the news that regional airline Flybe ‘ceased trading’ abruptly this weekend, leading to disruption for 2,500 customers who were supposed to fly on Saturday, the UK Civil Aviation Authority said rival carriers will provide discounted ‘rescue fares.’

Approximately 75,000 passengers in total have been affected by the closure.

These include Ryanair, British Airways, easyJet and rail operator LNER. BA is offering one-way fares of €57 while Ryanair has fares from €35; Ryanair also extended an invitation to laid-off workers.

Flybe first collapsed in 2020 at the start of the pandemic when it was then acquired by an affiliate of US hedge fund Cyrus Capital.
