US President Barak Obama recently met Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive, Ethiopian Airlines. In their discussions, President Obama expressed his appreciation for the long-standing and close partnership between Ethiopian and the Boeing Company. He had toured the Boeing assembly line and was gratified to have seen the Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying the Ethiopian flag.
Tewolde Gebremariam briefed the President on the airline’s current ownership of 13 B787 Dreamliners – with another eight on order – and expressed delight with its popularity among Ethiopian’s customers.
Replying to the President’s question about profitable routes, Tewolde listed, among many, Washington DC, Beijing, Shanghai, Changzhou, Hong Kong, and Luanda. He also explained to President Obama that Ethiopian is currently flying to 91 international destinations across five continents.
The President in return congratulated Ethiopian Airlines for successfully running the largest and most profitable airline in Africa.
