Portugal’s tourism product has fully recovered from the Covid crisis, with latest UN Tourism figures showing more than 18 million people visited the Iberian country during 2023; officially a record number for a single year.
The 18 million figure represented a 19% increase on the previous year; and an 11% rise on pre-Covid 2019.
The latest stats only measured hotel stays, so the true figure is likely to be higher. In terms of hotels, more than 30 million guests were measured visiting Portugal last year.
Inbound tourism accounts for an estimated 15% of Portugal’s economy.
