At its agm this weekend, the Irish Tour Operators Federation elected Philip Airey of Sunway Holidays as President for 2011/2012. Christine Donnelly of Falcon Holidays and Ray Scully of Crystal Holidays were elected to the council.
Speaking at the meeting, which was held in the resort of Salou in Spain, the newly elected President said: “Our members have reported a challenging year, but that it was clear that people recognised both the value and security of the bonded holiday package, especially in these difficult economic times, and the decision to reduce capacity slightly this summer proved to be the correct decision.
“The main scheduled carriers, some now grounding aircraft for the winter season, have seen this trend as well and have abandoned their low fare policies.
“ITOF member companies will continue to offer the best value for money and fully bonded holidays to a wide variety of destinations for this coming season.”
He also thanked the outgoing President, Kevin Nolan of Topflight, for his policy of ‘steady as she goes’ during his term of office.
The tour operators were welcomed on arrival in Salou with a reception hosted by Octavi Bono Gispert, the Manager of the Patronat de Turisme, Diputaco Tarragona.
ITOF represents the major tour operators in Ireland, namely American Holidays, Crystal Holidays, Falcon Holidays, Sunway Holidays, Thomas Cook Holidays and Topflight.
