IAG Tables Offer for BMI

Sky News City Editor Mark Kleinman has reported this evening that International Airlines Group, the parent company of British Airways and Iberia, has tabled a proposal to buy BMI from Lufthansa.

“Discussions between the two sides are understood to be at an early stage and could involve a full takeover of the airline or a deal to acquire some of its assets, including its prized take-off and landing slots at London Heathrow Airport,” he said. “Acquiring BMI would give IAG more than half of all take-off and landing slots at the airport and strengthen BA’s grip on one of the world’s most important transport hubs.”
