The potential summer of chaos at London’s Heathrow Airport could prove worse than anticipated, with latest warnings suggesting ongoing industrial action could see airport workers on strike nearly every weekend during the summer.
The Unite trade union has been looking for better working conditions and increased pay levels for its members at Heathrow for some time and strikes have already begun, kicking off at the end of last month.
However, reports suggest Unite is accelerating its pressure on Heathrow’s bosses with 31 days of strikes looming – beginning later this month.
In all, strikes are planned at Heathrow on June 24, 25, 28, 29 and 30; July 14-16, 21-24, and 28-31; and August 4-7, 11-14, 18-20 and 24-27; involving around 2,000 security staff.
