Emirates Airlines is examining a new service from Dublin to Dubai. The initial plans are for five flights a week to the UAE and ITTN understands that a decision is expected soon with a view to commencing in mid-January 2012.
The flights would be operated by an Airbus A330 in a two-class configuration, and comes after many years of route analysis by the carrier on the viability of operating from Ireland.
From its hub in Dubai International Airport the airline operates flights to 111 cities in 62 countries – Ireland will make that 63. In 2010 the carrier became the sixth largest airline in the world.
It also means that the carrier will go head to head with Etihad, which currently operates 10 flights a week to Abu Dhabi from Dublin.
