EasyJet will introduce flights from Belfast International Airport to London Southend, starting on 2 April 2012. Flights went on sale yesterday, with fares from £23.99 one-way including taxes. There will be two flights daily from Monday – Friday, one flight on Saturday and two flights on Sunday.
A multi-million pound terminal will open in October at London Southend Airport, which will be easyJet’s 11th UK base. A new airport train station due to open soon is just a minute’s walk from the terminal and there will be rail links into London. Central London (Liverpool Street) is just over 50 minutes away, and the journey time to Stratford is 40 minutes.
Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Commercial Manager, said: “With flights already to Gatwick, Luton and Stansted, the introduction of the Southend service further strengthens our London operations. The airport is in a fantastic location just outside London and the fast rail links to London Liverpool Street and Stratford stations, up to eight times hourly, will be appreciated by business and leisure travellers.
“London has, of course, a host of attractions, but many people will also enjoy what Southend has to offer, from excellent hotels, restaurants and shops, to the famous pier and one of Europe’s largest free air shows.”
EasyJet has signed a 10-year partnership agreement with the Stobart Group, owners of the London Southend Airport. Uel Hoey, Business Development Director at Belfast International Airport, said: “London is a key market for us and we are delighted that easyJet is adding another gateway to its already extensive London area services. The addition of the Southend route to easyJet’s network will be greatly appreciated by the many Northern Ireland people who go to London on business or for a leisure break.”
