Costa Canuva, Mexico’s first ocean-fronted community, will be the closest beach resort to Guadalajara and will include a world-class PGA golf course co-designed by Greg Norman and Lorena Ochoa.
Announced at last week’s Tianguis Turístico 2016 in Guadalajara by Portuguese investor Fonatur, US group Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Mota-Engil Turismo, the MX$120 million first phase of Costa Canuva will commence this summer and open in 2018. This will comprise the 18-hole golf course, a 250-room and six-villa Fairmont hotel with convention rooms and event garden, specialty restaurant, Spa WillowStream, and 350 residences.
The overall resort will cost MX$1.8 billion and include five luxury hotels, 2,500 residences and a marina along 7km of coastline and aims to attract national and international visitors.
Greg Norman said: “Costa Canuva is one of four new strategic centres being developed in Mexico and will be the first ocean-fronted community in the country, just 2.5 hours drive from Guadalajara. The 71-hectare, 18-hole golf course has a truly majestic location and my co-designer, Mexico’s champion women’s golfer Lorena Ochoa, has changed the way that golf is perceived in Mexico.”
