In a quirky initiative to raise awareness of the campaign, an Aer Lingus aircraft registered EI DES was fitted with a giant Movember moustache. Des’s makeover was documented on the company’s Facebook, Twitter, Vine, Instagram and Snapchat accounts.

Social media was a core element of the campaign with over 530,000 people reached during the month as part of the ‘Donate to Des’ call. This was the second year of Aer Lingus support for the Movember campaign.

Declan Kearney, Director of Communications, said: “Aer Lingus is very proud of the contribution made by our 50 mo-growers this year. We also want to thank our many customers who contributed to the Irish Cancer Society via our Movember campaign and a special thanks to EI-DES, our mo-plane. Following a trip to the hangar last week, DES is again flying clean-shaven throughout Europe.”

Jack O’Connor of Movember Ireland said: “The Aer Lingus team have once again made a huge effort with the Movember campaign. Last year they set the record for the highest fundraisers in Movember Ireland history and this year they have raised a whopping total of €35,000. The Aer Lingus mo’s are helping us to change the face of men’s health and supporting the one in eight Irish men that get diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.”
