Aer Lingus Fastest at Annual BUD:Runway Run

Aer Lingus staff have regained two top awards at the annual BUD:Runway Run. On Saturday 3rd September, 17 members of staff took part in the annual race that pits airline teams from around the world against each other in the air transport industry’s premier charity-sportive event.

Competitors gathered at Budapest Airport and competed over 10km, the equivalent to four runway lengths, with Aer Lingus staff emerging victorious as the World’s Fastest Airline. Additional accolades for Team Ireland included Aer Lingus’s Robert Murphy who won the Fastest Male title with a time of 34.47 and Orla Gorman who finished in second place in the Fastest Female heat with a time of 43.32. James Liddane and Carmel Coyne, both based at Aer Lingus’s Shannon operation, each finished in third place in their respective races.

Welcoming the triumphant team back to Ireland, Aer Lingus Chief Executive Stephen Kavanagh, said: “Congratulations to all involved from across our airline in delivering a great team performance. You have done Aer Lingus proud and helped a great charitable cause along the way.”

Following an internal search for participants back in June, the Aer Lingus team beat off competition from Qatar Airways, Wizz Air and Swiss, among a host of other international airlines. Entry fees arising from the annual event, which took place in sweltering 35-degree heat, are donated to cancer charities and child-focussed causes.
