A new Aer Lingus summer service to Brussels and Wizz Air routes to Euro 2012’s four Polish venues, among other new routes, are set to score for Cork Airport this year.
Kevin Cullinane, Cork Airport’s Marketing Manager, Aviation Business Development, told Irish Travel Trade News: “2012 promises to be a brighter year with many new European scheduled routes already announced, including our big inaugural for summer, the new Aer Lingus route to Brussels, and new Ryanair routes to Girona, Las Palmas and Pisa.
“There will also be extra capacity on London routes, while extra capacity to Edinburgh and Manchester (Aer Lingus) and Newcastle (Jet2.com) have also been announced. The Aer Lingus Regional services to Rennes and Jersey will also return for summer 2012.”
In total, Cork Airport currently provides services to 56 destinations – 43 on scheduled flights and 13 on charters.
Euro 2012
Wizz Air serves the four Polish Euro 2012 host cities directly from Cork – Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw – operating twice weekly to each as follows:
- Gdansk: Wednesday, Sunday
- Poznan: Monday, Friday
- Warsaw: Monday, Friday
- Wroclaw: Thursday, Sunday
Wizz Air is not currently working with Irish tour operators to sell Euro 2012 packages, so this service will suit those who wish to book their own accommodation and match tickets.
Due to demand, fans will need to book early and be flexible with their dates to get the best fare. At present, for example, the return fare from Cork to Posnan, including booking fee, is €556 departing on 8th June and returning on 19th June (the closest dates around Ireland’s first three matches), compared to €236 for 4th June to 22nd June.
