World Travel Awards 2024: TAP Air Portugal Named World’s Best Airline Flying to Africa & South America

TAP Air Portugal has been named the world’s best airline flying to Africa and South America.

The company received both awards at the annual World Travel Awards ceremony, which this year took place in Madeira.

For the seventh time in a row, TAP has been honoured by the World Travel Awards as the World’s Best Airline flying to Africa and South America, after having received the same award in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Mário Chaves, TAP’s Chief Operating Officer, who received the award, said: “These awards reflect the importance of the South American and African markets for the Company and also the work we have done to strengthen this position. We work every day to make the Company better. We’re going to be 80 years old next year and for 80 years we’ve been able to maintain this leadership and we hope we can continue to serve our customers in the best possible way.”

In Africa, TAP has 80 weekly flights from Porto and Lisbon to 14 destinations in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Morocco, Senegal, Gambia and Ghana.

TAP Air Portugal has 87 flights a week to Brazil and flies directly from Lisbon to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, Florianópolis and Manaus, as well as connecting Porto to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In total, there are 13 cities in Brazil (15 routes from Lisbon and Porto) that TAP connects directly to Portugal.

In South America, TAP also flies to Venezuela, with direct flights between Funchal and Caracas.

The World Travel Awards honour the best in world tourism in dozens of categories and in various parts of the world. The winners of the World Travel Awards were chosen through an online voting process, mostly by tourism and travel professionals, such as travel agents, operators and tourism organisations from various countries, but also by the general public.

TAP currently flies to 92 destinations, with more than a thousand flights a week.
