Singapore Airlines Changes Seatbelt Policy After Severe Turbulence Incident

Singapore Airlines – one of the airlines involved in high profile severe turbulence incidents in the last month – has announced it has changed its in-flight seatbelt policy.

The airline said it is taking a more cautious approach and will continue to review its seatbelt and safety processes, with the safety of its passengers and crew of “utmost importance”.

One of the measures already taken, by Singapore, is to stop serving food and refreshments while the seatbelt sign is on.

A London-Singapore Singapore Airlines flight and a Doha-Dublin Qatar Airways flight suffered severe turbulence in the last few weeks. Both flights resulted in dozens of injuries – both minor and serious – while the Singapore flight saw one passenger die.
