SAS Scandinavian Airlines has confirmed it will formally join the SkyTeam airline alliance on September 1; promising its passengers the move will result in “smoother travel”, easier connections and more destination options.
SAS leaves Star Alliance – of which it was one of the founding airlines – in the process.
The new alliance will open up connections for SAS customers to more than 1,060 destinations including new destinations in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
As soon as SAS joins SkyTeam, EuroBonus members will receive benefits when flying with most SkyTeam airlines. Silver members will receive SkyTeam Elite status, while Gold and Diamond members will become Elite Plus. Elite Plus members will have access to over 750 airport lounges and will also be able to use SkyPriority services such as priority check-in and boarding.

SkyTeam members flying to and from SAS hubs Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm are: Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines and Middle East Airlines.
