The US Justice Department is requesting that US Airways and American Airlines provide more information about the carriers’ proposed merger. The airlines notified the US federal government about their merger plans on 31st January and publicly announced it on 14th February. They have not disclosed the type or scope of the information requested.
“American Airlines and US Airways expect to respond promptly to the Second Request and to continue working co-operatively with the DOJ as it conducts its review of the proposed combination,” the airlines said in their announcement.
“American Airlines and US Airways continue to expect the combination to be completed in the third quarter of 2013.”
Doug Parker, US Airways Chairman and Chief Executive, told attendees at a JPMorgan conference yesterday, before word of the second request came out, that he expected such a request from Department of Justice officials.
