Global governments need to “get serious” about granting airlines incentives to adopt the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), international tourism lobby group the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has said.
With SAF likely to be the main route to net zero emissions from the aviation sector, the WTTC said much more needs to be done regarding airline adoption – with it saying current production rates are way too low if the aviation sector is to have a chance of reaching net zero by 2050.
The WTTC said prices for the fuel are still too high for most airlines.
“It is time for governments to take bold action and prioritise the production of sustainable aviation fuel. We are calling on all governments to act now,” said WTTC president Julia Simpson.
