Hungarian low-cost carier Wizz Air is introducing cabin baggage charges across all its flights following an August-long trial on its Katowice – London Luton route. Wizz says that the new policy reduced overcrowding in aircraft cabins.
From 4th October, passengers can travel with a free small cabin bag measuring up to 42x32x25cm (laptop or handbag size) or pay €11 (£9) to bring a large cabin bag – up to 56x45x25cm. Goods purchased after security will still be allowed on board for free. The airline says that all airfares will be discounted by €5 (£4) to share the savings made by the scheme.
Wizz Air claims to be the first airline to introduce such a scheme in Europe.
