Hungarian low-fares airline Wizz Air has become the latest European carrier to improve its sustainable and green credentials by signing a deal for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The move follows similar deals and partnerships done recently by the likes of Aer Lingus, Iberia and Ryanair.
Wizz’s deal is with Austrian oil and gas firm OMV and gives the Hungarian airline the chance to purchase up to 185,000 metric tonnes of SAF.
Wizz said it is committed to lowering its emissions by a further 25% by the end of this decade.
“We have achieved our sustainability position by continued investment in innovative technology and operating the most up-to-date aircraft,” said Wizz Air development officer Owain Jones.
