“With summer holidays in full swing and most travel agents recording an increase in bookings, perhaps now is the time to focus on getting some early winter sun and ski sales,” writes Sarah Slattery in the Winter Holidays issue of Irish Travel Trade News, currently being distributed.
“The lack of flights to Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco means that the Canary Islands will no doubt be in high demand this year. Ryanair’s three times weekly flight to Malta is also welcome as there is an overall lack of supply for winter sun destinations.
“Aer Lingus has announced its largest ever capacity for winter sun, with over 400,000 seats to the sun for 2016/2017. Lanzarote is the airline’s most popular route with 100,000 seats available from Dublin, Cork and Shannon, equating to eight flights per week.
“There is also a busy ski season ahead – particularly for the February mid-term break! Following a bumper year for ski sales last year, the 2016/2017 season is bound to be a busy one. The upturn in the economy, the lack of sun holiday destinations and the overall interest in healthy living is all good news for ski operators.”
