La “Tomatina”, the most famous tomato battle, returns
La Tomatina de Buñol is back- the internationally renowned tomato battle returns on 31 August to celebrate its 75th anniversary. For an hour, more than 150,000 kilos of tomatoes will be thrown left, right and centre, turning the streets of the Valencian town red. A fireworks display follows, marking the end of the battle. This year the little ones can also take part, as on 27 August Buñol is offering a free children’s Tomatina. GEOVALENCIA 2022 – Discover the city through geocaching
GEOVALENCIA will be transforming València into an international geocaching venue from 30 September – 2 October. Geocaching is an activity that involves hiding “treasures” all over the world with the aim of making special places known to its users, who search for them and share their experiences through social media and dedicated websites. In the next GEOVALENCIA, there is a 3-day activity proposal for the geocacher community and for anyone who wants to experience this unique way of exploring València – and all free of charge. Warming up for World Paella Day 2022
The countdown to the next World Paella Day is on. Every year, 20 September marks International Paella Day, a day that celebrates the most universal dish of Valencian gastronomy. With the celebrations comes the World Paella Day Cup, a competition to find the international chef who cooks the best paella in the world outside Spain. While Spain will maintain its role as host, for the first year the country will be unable to compete. València will welcome the finalist chefs, who will compete in the World Paella Day Cup Stage. This training stage will see the chefs learn from the best paella experts, travel to Valencia to learn the tips and tricks of the trade from the best – Santos Ruíz, from the D.O. Arroz de València; Toni Montoliu, owner and chef of La Barraca de Toni Montoliu; Rafa Margós, chef of Les Bairetes; and Chabe Soler, winner of the WPD Cup 2020. Celebrate a Century of the Davis Cup at the knockout phase in València
The world’s leading men’s team tennis championship, The Davis Cup, is celebrating 100 years and València is one of the four venues for the group stage in which sixteen countries will compete. The qualifying round that València will host will be Group B: Spain, Canada, Serbia and the Republic of Korea. The tournament will be held from 14 – 18 September at the Fuente de San Luis Pavilion, a venue with a capacity of approximately 9,000 seats.
