United Airlines Debuts Wireless Recharging Capabilities

United Airlines has introduced onboard wireless phone charging capabilities.

However, for now, the service is only available on its domestic US routes and in first-class seats.

But, in those seats, every arm rest will have a wireless charging station, meaning a phone or device only needs to be placed atop the sensor, rather than plugged into it.

The development is part of United Airlines’ new United First seat for its domestic first class passengers. The new seats include larger seatback screens (13” to be exact) and tray tables, Bluetooth connectivity, privacy screens and ergonomic cushions.

“This new United First seat is designed around the modern traveller – more charging options, bigger spaces for devices, food, drinks and personal items and extra privacy,” said Mark Muren, United Managing Director of Identity, Product and Loyalty. “As we evolve the onboard experience, we’re upending old industry norms and anticipating future needs to accommodate the new ways people live and travel.”
