Victor Dubuisson from France beat off some of the world’s leading golfers, including Tiger Woods, to win the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open Golf at the MaxxRoyal course in Antalya, Turkey, this weekend. The runner up was Jamie Donaldson who also won a million miles on Turkish Airlines for a hole in one during the event, which is part of the European tour.
The airline hosted some of the trade at the golf, where Cormac Walsh, Joe Walsh Tours, was joined by John Galligan, John Galligan Travel, and Volker Lorenz, Amadeus.
John Galligan was impressed by Antalya, which has 14 golf courses side by side with more than 50 5-star hotels, many of them offering fully inclusive rates including golf. It will appeal to upmarket golfers, John said.
Turkish Airlines now flies 10 times a week from Dublin to Istanbul, increasing to 12 flights week next April. There are frequent connecting flights to Antalya.
The carrier is really golf friendly as there is no extra charge for golf clubs.
Tiger Woods became the first golfer to drive a golf ball from east to west (from Asia to Europe) on the iconic bridge across the Bosphorus in Istanbul as part of the event.
