Turkish Airlines to Operate 10 Flights a Week ex-Dublin, ITAA Delegates Informed

Welcoming the delegates to the ITAA Conference, ‘Don’t stand still – Embrace change’, being held today in Istanbul, Murat Balandi, Managing Director Ireland, Turkish Airlines, said that the airline would be increasing its frequency on Dublin – Istanbul to 10 flights a week from 1stApril 2013.

“With Turkish Airlines your clients can fly onwards to more than 200 destinations, including 55-plus cities within 3.5 hours flight time. Our fleet now numbers 200 aircraft that have an average age of 6.5 years.

“We are now the third largest airline in Europe, carrying 38.2 million passengers in 2012 and operating 200,000 flights per year, making Istanbul ‘the natural hub of the world’.

“Turkish Airlines has also been voted Europe’s Best Airline in the Skytrax Awards in 2011 and 2012.”

Jim Sharkey R.I.P.

At the start of the conference, Martin Skelly called for a minute’s silence for the late Jim Sharkey, Past President of the ITAA 1992 – 1994, who died last Friday.

Martin said: “Jim had a deep sense of integrity. He was a great friend and a loyal and supportive travel agent. It was a great pleasure for me and for many others to work with him on the ITAA Council. He was a great character and great fun.

“We will always smile when we think of him.”
