Turkish Airlines Lodges Takeover Bid for Mallorca’s Air Europa

Turkish Airlines has bid to acquire Mallorca-based airline Air Europa, outright, with the view of strengthening its footprint in Iberia and Latin America.

Air Europa has attracted major interest from a number of major carriers in recent times – including Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and IAG, which owns Aer Lingus, British Airways and Spanish airlines Iberia and Vueling. Lufthansa and IAG have recently sold their holdings in Air Europa.

Turkish Airlines already owns a minority stake in Air Europa.

“Following feasibility studies, the investment has been assessed as consistent with the company’s long-term value generation objectives in its 2033 strategy,” Turkish Airlines said in a statement.
