Trafalgar Launches its first-ever River Cruise Itineraries

River cruising is set to be one of 2026’s defining travel trends, with rising demand driven by a desire for immersive yet convenient ways to explore multiple destinations. At the same time, Gen Z and millennial travellers are increasingly opting for ocean-based adventures.

According to ABTA, almost a fifth of 25- to 34-year-olds took a cruise in the past 12 months – up from fewer than one in 20 in 2019. As interest continues to grow, river cruising is emerging as an ideal entry point for first-time cruisers, offering smaller ships, curated experiences and a slower pace that prioritises connection over scale.

Against this backdrop, Trafalgar – renowned globally for its expertly guided land journeys – will offer its first river cruise itineraries in spring 2026 bringing its signature storytelling, local access and ease of travel to Europe’s iconic waterways. Launching with two Rhine and Danube journeys, alongside festive Christmas Markets sailings, Trafalgar’s river programme delivers culturally rich experiences aboard the 128-passenger Trafalgar Reverie and Trafalgar Verity. Highlights span Europe’s great cities and landscapes – from Budapest, Vienna and Passau to Amsterdam, Strasbourg and Cologne – paired with exclusive Be My Guest dining at wineries, farms and microbreweries, and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER™ experiences focused on heritage and sustainability. Designed with boutique hotel comfort, multiple lounges, wellness facilities and different cabin categories, Trafalgar’s river cruises speak directly to 2026’s key trends: accessible comfort, purposeful travel, and deeper cultural connection.

Trafalgar’s new river cruises start from £2,649 with flights, meals and accommodation included. Sailings begin from 11 April  2026. For more information, visit www.trafalgar.com
