Despite strong wind and rain throughout the day yesterday, TIGS members enjoyed the Etihad Airways-sponsored outing at Druids Glen and, it being the first outing of the year, Greg Cawley of TecSupport was presented with the Irish Travel Trade News trophy for TIGS Golfer of the Year.
The winners on the day were John Power, with 37 points playing off 13, and Helen Kelly, with 27 points playing off 22. John said: “No-one is more surprised at this than me. We had a great day – and obviously the way to do it is with jet lag!” Helen said: “We got soaked by the fourth hole, but Druids Glen is a fantastic course.”
At the prize presentations dinner in the clubhouse, Shay Mitchell announced that 15 new members had already registered this year and he welcomed those new members attending, as well as “three old and returned” members.
TIGS Captain Eileen Penrose of Emirates said: “Thank you to everyone for staying out there on this wet and windy day!” and thanked Dave Walsh and Etihad Airways for sponsoring both the day and golf-pro Barry Power of Barry Power Golfing Academy.
Barry spent the day videoing the swings of each player at the third tee and then in the evening, before and after the dinner, analysed each player’s drive for them individually using the Digital Coaching System, including video comparisons with top professional players. The solution to a better swing was often “more rotation”, as it was for Michael Doorley, who was assured that: “Your swing just needs a bit of tweeking with a bit more rotation – and a bit of WP40!” Barry can be contacted at [email protected].
Eileen Penrose also presented a cheque to Emma Taaffe and Niki Stanford towards their recent charity climb of Kilimanjaro in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation, the Irish Cancer Society, and St Frances Hospice.
