The Specialist Sales team at Thomas Cook Ireland invited Irish travel agents onboard the P&O Adonia, which will make a 112-night world cruise from Southampton on 7thJanuary 2014, when the ship visited Dublin Port yesterday – during the week in which, 152 years ago in 1861, a group of holidaymakers set off with Thomas Cook from London to Paris on the first ever package holiday!
The Adonia will visit 48 ports of call in 26 countries on its 16-week world cruise before returning to Southampton on 29th April, and cruise-only prices start from €12,159pps for an interior stateroom on full board basis, excluding gratuities.
The 30,300-ton Adonia is a compact vessel for just 710 passengers and 385 crew, and is exclusively for adults (minimum age 18 years), and thus has a relaxed, intimate ‘club’ atmosphere. It is the smallest ship in P&O Cruises’ fleet and is able to visit intriguing ports that other larger ships cannot.
While it does not have such an extensive range of entertainment as found on larger cruise ships, there is a choice of dining venues, bars and lounges, a small theatre, card room, library, spa and gym. The cabins were fully booked when the ship docked in Dublin and the average age of passengers was just under 70 years.
Prior to the ship’s world cruise, Thomas Cook Cruise Ireland is offering three shorter ex-Southampton cruises on the Adonia: a 16-night Fjords & Spitzbergen cruise departing 1st June 2013 (from €929pps cruise only); a 16-night Baltic cruise departing 3rd July (€1,949pps); and a 28-night Caribbean cruise departing 22nd November (€2,919pps).
