“Shopping in the Turkish markets is a major part of the Turkish experience, so make sure your clients give it a go, whether they are looking to do serious damage or simply pick up a few souvenirs.
“Pick up anything from silver jewellery, to delicious locally-grown fruit and vegetables, and, of course, ‘genuine imitation’ handbags, designer clothing and shoes. You can even pick up some of the latest trendy technology devices.
“While everything is branded as a ‘genuine imitation’ and not actually the real deal from designers, the style is uncanny and the quality is quite good. Your Louis Vuitton handbag may not be the exact same as some of the Hollywood A-listers – but it definitely looks the part.
“Haggling is the name of the game at these markets. The local venders know how to play the game and the bartering is all part of the experience. The best way to go about it is to start off low and work your way back up, with the general rule of thumb being to never settle for anything less than a 30% discount off the original asking price.
