Flying can be a nerve-wracking experience when faced with turbulence. A recent report from Turbli, an interactive website dedicated to providing travellers with insights into potential flight turbulence, has revealed the planet’s most turbulent flight routes for 2023.
Turbli’s comprehensive analysis, drawing from a historical database of turbulence, has pinpointed the 10 flight paths worldwide that are most prone to turbulence. Leading the list is the 1,900-mile journey from Santiago, Chile (SCL) to Viru Viru International Airport in Bolivia, followed closely by the 210-mile route between Almaty, Kazakhstan, and its capital, Bishkek.
The majority of these turbulent routes are concentrated in China and Japan. Ranking third is the 661-mile flight between Lanzhou and Chengdu in China, with the domestic route from Japan’s Chubu Centrair International Airport to Sendai Airport in Natori, Miyagi, Japan, securing the fourth position.
Rounding out the top five is a European flight route between Italy’s Milan Malpensa Airport and Geneva in Switzerland. Milan also makes a second appearance on the list, with a flight path to Zurich securing the tenth position. Additional turbulent flight paths among the top 10 include routes connecting Lanzhou to Xianyang, Osaka to Sendai, Xianyang to Chengdu, and Xianyang to Chongqing.
Turbli’s annual ranking, based on a meticulous analysis of 150,000 routes, serves as a valuable resource for travelers seeking information about potential turbulence on upcoming flights.
