Thailand has achieved record-breaking international arrivals, breaking the 22 million mark for the first time in 2012 and showing an increase of 15.98% over 2011. With just under 60,000 Irish visitors to the Kingdom, it is easy to see why Thailand was voted Best Asia /Pacific Destination in the 2012 Irish Travel Trade Awards by the travel agents across the island of Ireland.
Suraphon Svetasreni, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said: “We are overjoyed with these results in the year that the people of Thailand commemorated the 85th birthday of His Majesty the King.” He also went on to thank the travel and tourism industry.
The primary contribution to this result was the prevalence of global, regional, local peace and stability. Travel and Tourism can only flourish worldwide if the underlying conditions that support it remain free of disturbance and disruption. “This is one of the most important leesons for the entire industry to learn worldwide,” he said.
Meanwhile, following the Thai Government decision to commit to a dual airport policy for Bangkok, Don Mueang Airport is to become a dedicated low-cost carrier hub for the capital.
