Swiss Winter Get-Together at Dublin’s New Ruby Molly Hotel

Switzerland Tourism and TravelMedia hosted a delightful evening, holding an exclusive media event to celebrate their Winter Launch at the stunning new Ruby Molly Hotel in Dublin last night.

The special evening showcased the latest Swiss travel experiences and winter offerings, with presentations by Andreas Nef; Travel Switzerland, Celina Finger; Interlaken Tourism, Emilie Morard; Valais/Wallis Promotion and Céline Deplazes; Lucerne/Lake Lucerne Region Tourism (replaced by Fran Lambert on the night).

Guests, including Emer Roche from ITTN, enjoyed Swiss delicacies and wine- Pinot Noir and Chasselas. Fran Lambert welcomed everybody and kicked off the presentations. Among the highlights for Winter 2024, the first section of the new Schilthornbahn 20XX, a traditional 85-person cable car between Stechelberg and Mürren, will open in mid-December. This cable car is the steepest in the world!

Switzerland in autumn was highlighted as a beautiful and underrated time to visit—with options ranging from skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and thermal spas. All regions offer multi-generational opportunities for fun and culture.

Skiing in Switzerland does not necessarily mean you have to travel far from Zurich, but with the Swiss Travel System being so inexpensive, reliable, and sustainable, there’s no reason to limit your choice.

Christmas markets in Switzerland are exceptional. In Lucerne, there’s Ice Magic, an ice rink on the banks of Lake Lucerne. Zurich is full of beautiful festive markets, and Montreux creates a magical experience to rival Lapland, with Santa Claus flying overhead in his sleigh multiple times a day.

A fun fact is that this year marks the 40th anniversary of Wham’s Christmas classic “Last Christmas,” where members George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley accompany their girlfriends to visit friends at an unspecified ski resort cottage. The cable car visible in two shots is from Saas-Fee, Switzerland, where the video was filmed on 21 November 1984.

Andreas Nef, representing Swiss Travel System, shared some impressive statistics about the 29,000 kilometres of Swiss public transport network. Trains, buses, and boats are geared up to take travellers to their destinations comfortably and right on time, with trains impressively never being more than 3 minutes late! In terms of sustainability, Switzerland boasts some of the most incredible statistics in the world, making its public transport system even more sustainable than walking!
