Andrea Zito, CEO of Swan Hellenic, has been recognised for his contribution to high-end cruising with the Seatrade Cruise Personality of the Year Award.
A visionary CEO, Mr Zito, has led Swan Hellenic to its global success. His selection by a panel of industry experts is a tremendous accolade.
Swan Hellenic’s resurgence has been a remarkable adventure, bringing a tradition for cultural cruising right up to date with three purpose-designed Polar Class luxury expedition ships, distinguished by uniquely elegant, Scandi interiors with panoramic views. Complementing this to establish a class in its own, Zito brought world-renowned on-board experts and expedition guides aboard, along with true gourmet chefs and premium boutique hotel and spa facilities.
Combined with strong sustainability commitments and exceptional itineraries in the wildest and most desirable regions, Swan Hellenic has built a leading reputation in just five years. That takes vision but also rare determination, especially as its relaunch coincided with the COVID pandemic. For Zito, these challenges simply added spice – an inspiring spirit which was recognised today.
The award was presented by Mary Bond, Seatrade Cruise Group Portfolio Director and Per Bjornsen, CEO of V. Ships Leisure. Ms Bond expalined: “As CEO he has revitalised the brand, transforming it into a global leader in expedition cruising while championing sustainability and cultural exploration. Under his leadership, Swan Hellenic has pioneered ocean health, carbon-neutral initiatives and science programs that empower guests to contribute to marine research.“
Mr Zito, accepting the award, was generous in his praise: “I’d like above all to thank my team. They’re the best professionals in the industry. At the same time, sincere thanks are due to our partners and shareholders. They have supported us patiently in this exciting adventure through times full of uncertainty and disruption. Thanks also and especially to our fantastic crew, who make it possible for us to consistently achieve the top rankings in our category month after month. Together, we’ve achieved exceptional results, the most exciting of which is that we’re closing the year in sustained financial breakeven, with a 2026 outlook of solid positive territory and all this after less than three years in operation.“
