As the Awards event was in full flow, Don Harris was quietly interviewing a dozen or more suppliers for a radio programme about the Irish travel industry and the 21st Irish Travel Trade Awards that will be broadcast in early January.
Some in the industry will remember Don from his time spent as a member of the Irish Travel Trade News team in the 1980s. Since 1992 he has been involved in radio news and advertising with his company Airtime, and in recent years as Managing Director of TalkBack, an audio interview facilitation service, and as presenter of the local radio programme ‘You and Your Business’ on Dublin City FM.
Don said: “Dublin City FM, on the 103.2 frequency, was celebrating its 30th anniversary on the night of the Irish Travel Trade Awards. The station is Ireland’s only special interest, arts and culture radio station and many of its listeners also avail of the morning and evening Dublin traffic news reports.
“My ‘You and Your Business’ programme, which is broadcast on Thursdays at 12.30pm, focuses on start-up businesses and how entrepreneurs have managed to develop successful businesses – in many sectors.
“It is interesting to see how new travel agencies, tour operators and other travel industry suppliers are still coming into existence and being successful, particularly in niche businesses.
“My interviews with suppliers at the Irish Travel Trade Awards provide a very good and broad perspective of the past year and future prospects for the Irish travel industry and will make for an interesting programme in January.”
