Cyprus – An All-Year-Round Destination
Cyprus offers an authentic Mediterranean experience, rich in sunkissed shores, centuries of culture and flavourful cuisine. The island boasts 326 days of sunshine annually. On the west coast of the Island, Paphos Airport is 15km from Paphos itself, nestled on the Cypriot coastline. This has the accolade of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a haven of nature and culture.
Sunway offers sunshine in abundance with direct flights from Dublin bringing you to a doorstep of rugged nature, glistening turquoise sea, year-round sunshine and memorable experiences to liven your senses.
Cypriot Culture & Activities
Cypriot cuisine has influences from Greek and Middle Eastern cultures with an abundance of locally grown produce. Interestingly, Cyprus makes the oldest wine still in production. It is a sweet dessert wine that is thought to date back more than 2,800 years.
Paphos earned the European Capital of Culture in 2017 and was the capital of Cyprus in Roman times. The harbour area has a strong restaurant and retail offering catering for all tastes, whether designer fashion or souvenirs, pirate ship cruises for the kids or sunset sailing onboard a catamaran – there is something for everyone. With 300 days of sunshine a year, there is plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular candy-floss sunsets. As a coastal town, watersports are widespread and as a city dating back to ancient times.
Also in Paphos, the Aphrodite Water Park opens from the end of March through to the start of November promising family fun.
Getting There – Twice Weekly Direct Service from Dublin
Ryanair offers a direct service from Dublin to Paphos operating twice weekly (Mon/Fri) with a journey time of 5 hours there and 5 hours 20 minutes on the way back.
Greek God of Travel, Luck & Sleep – Hermes Airport in Paphos
Hermes was the Greek god of travel, wealth, luck, sleep… all things we crave. Aptly named Hermes Airport, in Paphos on the West coast of Cyprus offers a gateway to the west coast of the island.
It’s worth noting that as Paphos is a small airport, you can’t get lost – there seemed to be 8 gates which you can see as you come from the retail/food hall. There are a half dozen eateries, a classic duty-free and a newsagent with a decent selection of alcohol, perfumes, confectionary and local delicacies.
Travelling through it, even in August last year, took a few minutes and a transfer to the airport was 15 minutes.
