During August Dubai is a vibrant and sun-drenched city, an ideal holiday destination for a group of friends. Restaurants, licensed bars and nightclubs come alive at night and with food and drinks promotions and big screen sport on offer there is never a better time to visit.

Friday Brunch (www.fairmont.com/Dubai) (www.rotana.com): Friday is the first day of the weekend in Dubai and is a time when groups of friends come together to enjoy brunch. At venues throughout the city a vast array of food is laid on along with themed entertainment. Try the Friday Brunch at Spectrum on One at Fairmont Dubai (from €69pp) or the more informal offering at Double Decker at Al Murooj Rotana (from €32pp). (Brunch is not available during Ramadan.)

Football World Cup 12th June – 13th July: Enjoy all the action from Brazil on big screens throughout the city. Tourists and ex-pats alike will come together at sports bars such as Fibber Magee’s, Waxy O’Conners and McGettigans. There will even be a fully air-conditioned ‘stadium’ built at the popular Barasti beach bar.

Golf (www.dubaigolf.com): Dubai is home to some of the finest golf courses in the world. During the summer months, friends can enjoy cooler tee-off times either early morning or late at night. The Emirates Golf Club’s Faldo Course is the only course in the Middle East to offer full floodlighting.

Watersports: Parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking and power boating are all available at a number of beaches in Dubai. Companies such as Watercooled at the JA Jebel Ali Beach Hotel offer affordable watersports with highly trained staff as part of their all-inclusive packages.

Desert Safaris (www.arabian-adventures.com): Take a trip into the desert in a 4×4 with a trained driver for dune bashing, sand boarding, falconry and more. Complete the experience with a desert BBQ.

Nightlife (www.dubaicalendar.ae) (www.timeoutdubai.com): During August Dubai has a vibrant nightlife and is home to literally hundreds of restaurants, licensed bars and nightclubs. The range of options is staggering. Enjoy a cool sea breeze and shisha at well-known beach bars such as Calibar or the Jetty Lounge at One&Only Royal Mirage. Watch some sport at the ever popular Barasti or, for a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere, try cocktails at Neos at Address Downtown, or At.mosphere high up the impressive Burj Khalifa. For partying to the early hours, try Embassy, Mahiki or N’Dulge.
