Strikes in Iceland Impact Tourism

Multiple strikes are impacting Iceland, notably its tourism industry. Negotiations between the trade union, Efling, and employers have not been resolved and both hotel employees and oil truckers are on strike.

The Icelandic Tourist Board has a dedicated information page detailing the current strikes in parts of Iceland’s services industry. These strikes will most severely impact some hotels and fuel delivery drivers in the Reykjavík capital and its surrounding area. There are upcoming hotel closures scheduled. In addition, there may be disruptions in fuel supplies at petrol stations.

Emergency number

A 24-hour emergency number has been established to help hotel guests who have lost their hotel accommodation. The number is only intended for guests in need who are unable to rebook themselves or travel agents who are unable to assist them. The number is +354 891 7765.

The situation is evolving; hopefully, the unions will reach a new collective bargaining agreement, and disruptions to travel plans will be minimal.
