Alan Sparling from SAS Scandinavian Airlines, together with his Star Alliance colleagues, hosted the annual travel trade Christmas lunch in Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.
Star Alliance now has 28 airline members who between them have 21,000 flights daily to 1,328 destinations in 195 countries.
Alan Sparling said that 2014 would be an even busier year for the alliance members in Ireland, with Turkish Airlines going from 10 to 12 flights a week from Dublin next April and Air Canada starting a year round service in 2014. The Air Canada service means an extra 75,000 seats on the market. He also welcomed the coming together of all the Star Alliance airlines in Heathrow’s Terminal 2 next year. Aer Lingus has also announced that its flights will relocate to Terminal 2, as Terminal 1 will be demolished.
