Spending more and time with family: PATA reveals 2022 Trends

Spending more money and more quality time with family is the top two trends for 2022, according to Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK & Ireland.

The data was revealed as part of a chapter-wide survey, asking members what’s new around the world, marketing focuses and booking insights from tour operators.

The full list of trends include:

  • 1. Splash the cash
  • 2. A family affair
  • 3. Healthy holidays
  • 4. Slow and solo
  • 5. Travel for good
  • 6. Road tripping
  • 7. Budget Conscious
  • 8. The Great Escape
  • 9. Agent Angels

1.Splash the Cash With so much pent-up travel demand from the last two years, this trend comes as no surprise as travellers rediscover the world. 2022 will be the first time many bucket-list destinations will be open again and these places are ready and excited to welcome back international travellers.

2. Family Affair Throughout the pandemic, families have been separated for much longer than many expected. As a result, people are planning to make up for lost time and reconnect with loved ones on holiday.

3. Healthy Holidays Expectations for wellness holidays have changed over the last couple of years, with
demand for more emphasis on mental wellbeing. Mindfulness-based holidays and a focus on health and diet have increased, as people have become more aware of their physical and emotional health since the pandemic.

4. Slow and solo Pre-pandemic travellers found themselves rushing, trying to tick off bucket lists, cramming trips into long weekends or jam-packing an itinerary with as much as possible with little time to truly take it
all in. It’s all about uncluttered itineraries and a relaxed pace that allows travellers to truly soak up the atmosphere and culture of a destination.
