The data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) revealed that in May, Spain experienced a significant surge in international tourism, with 8.2 million visitors, marking an 18 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a 4 per cent increase compared to May 2019.
These figures represent a historical record in terms of both visitor numbers and spending, with a total expenditure of €9.73 million. This marks a 21 per cent increase from the previous year and a 19 per cent increase compared to the pre-pandemic levels, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Spain welcomed a total of 29.2 million visitors in the first five months of the year, representing a stunning 28% increase over the same time last year. The entire expenditure for this time period was €35.4 million, which is a 32% increase from the year before and a 16% increase from 2019.
