The new Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin, Teresa Gancedo Nieto, was in excellent form as she announced that her country had achieved more than one million Irish visitors in July this year. She was speaking at a trade function to ‘celebrate a million’.
There were 1,245,767 Irish tourists to Spain in the period January to August this year.
This was an increase of 27.4% over the same period in 2015. These figures reveal the importance of seasonal concentration and, in particular, high season summer travel. Over 50% of trips take place during the months of May, June, July and August.
Cormac Meehan, ITAA President, said that he wished to thank all of the team at the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin for making all of this happen: “We in the trade could not do this without you – it is about the partnership between us.” He also referred to the incredible diversity of the Spanish tourism product.
Spain has great air capacity from Ireland with more than 1.4 million seats on offer from January to August. The forecast capacity for winter 2106 from Ireland to Spain is 830,185 seats – so there is great access to a great country.
