Declan Power, Head of Aviation Development at Shannon Airport, has reached a milestone in global aviation networking that no one else in the industry can claim. Since the inaugural World Routes event in Cannes in 1995, Declan has represented Shannon Airport at every single edition of the world’s leading air service development conference – an unbroken record of 30 consecutive events, plus the virtual edition in 2020, making it actually 31.
This remarkable achievement cements Declan’s status as the only delegate in the aviation industry to have attended all 30 World Routes events consecutively. Speaking about the milestone, he expressed his pride:
“I am proud to have represented Shannon Airport at all 30 World Routes events since Cannes in 1995, plus of course the Virtual Event in 2020, making it actually 31. More importantly, I am personally delighted to be the only delegate in the aviation industry to have consecutively attended all 30 events. This is a unique achievement and one that will never be repeated. I recall the price of a bottle of Heineken in Cannes in 1995 was a whopping £10 but the first event is always the best. I’m older Budweiser now”
Over nearly three decades, Declan has witnessed the growth and transformation of global air connectivity firsthand, from the early days in Cannes to destinations including Dubai, Beijing, Chicago, Chengdu, Bahrain and most recently Hong Kong in 2025.

As Head of Aviation Development, Declan Power has been instrumental in building Shannon’s reputation on the international stage, fostering relationships with airlines, airports, and stakeholders that have helped to shape Ireland’s connectivity. His consistent presence at World Routes underlines Shannon Airport’s commitment to forging global partnerships and advancing its role as a vital gateway.
This landmark moment not only celebrates Declan’s personal dedication but also highlights Shannon Airport’s long-standing influence within the global aviation industry. Congratulations, Declan!
