The Chairman of the Shannon Airport Aviation Business Development Task Force, Rose Hynes, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, in last week’s Budget 2013 of his intention to put in place measures that will assist in anchoring the aviation industry in Ireland.
“Minister Noonan’s announcement of a range of measures for the Irish aviation industry is a timely boost for Shannon Airport following the announcement by Government last Monday of separation of the airport by year end,” she said. “These measures will be advantageous to our plans at Shannon to build sustainable passenger growth as well as transforming the airport into a major international centre for aviation related business.
“We welcome the Minister’s intention to examine the feasibility of new funding sources for airlines in Ireland, which is a significant and timely boost in the context of our immediate focus on building on recent announcements of new services by securing further growth in passengers at Shannon. We also very much support the announcement of measures aimed at facilitating the construction of hangers and ancillary facilities, as well as exploring funding opportunities for financing and leasing companies.
“We look forward to further details from Government on the initiatives for Irish aviation announced and it is our intention to take maximum advantage of these measures so that we build a sustainable future for the airport, its staff and the wider region.”
